Duluth Downtown Restoration Proposal report
Scope and Contents
Early in 1966, a committee of three men assessed property in the Duluth downtown business district for the purpose of suggesting improving the quality and dynamism of the area. The report was submitted to the W.P. & R.S. Mars Co. from R.K. Prescott, vice president of Oneida Realty Co., all of Duluth. The conception and results of the report are not known.
The collection consists of a four page report and one page cover letter, both dated April 1, 1966, and 26 black and white silver gelatin, 8x10, photographs. The photographs are of blocks and buildings between Michigan Street and Second Street, Mesabi Avenue to Third Ave. East. Specifically identified properties include: 210 – 212 West Michigan, + detail; 226 – 228 West Michigan; South East Corner of Lake Avenue and 1st St.; Lake Avenue; Freimuth Building and detail; Lyric Theater block; Northeast corner of 1st Ave. East and Superior St.; Southwest corner of 2nd Avenue West and 1st Street; Savolainen Building and detail.
