Duluth Bethel Society records
Scope and Contents
The collection contains reference materials, a photo album, and one film. The reference materials, 1912-1975, include news clippings, a history of the Society, a 1912 paper and "A Sketch of Mr. L. A. Marvin's Bethel Activities." The photo album depicts various scenes of the Bethel mission dating from about the 1890s. Also included is one 16mm film (approx. 8 minutes) describing the Society's activities, from about the1960s.

Biographical / Historical
The Duluth Bethel Association of the Western Seamen's Friend Society became incorporated in 1873 "to promote the temporal and spiritual welfare of seamen" in Duluth, Minnesota. It has continued Christian missionary work since then through Gospel meetings, Sunday schools, a rehabilitation center and other charity functions. The organization's name changed to the Duluth Bethel Society in 1905.
