Biographical / Historical

The Duluth Garden Flower Society, Inc. was founded in 1927 to promote gardening, horticulture, preservation of birds and trees, and beautification in Duluth. The society continues its valuable and visible work. Distinct neighborhood garden clubs founded at various times throughout Duluth joined the Duluth Garden Flower Society. The neighborhood groups’ records are included in this collection: Arrowhead, Bayview, Central, Duluth Heights, Ensign, Hilltop, Homecroft, Lake Aire, Lakeview, Lester Park, Lincoln Park, Normanna, Norton Park, Oatmeal Hill, Oregon Creek, Park Point, Vermilion, West Duluth, Woodland.  In 1987, the Flower City of the North was organized by individual gardening enthusiast, city representatives, extension, and horticulture volunteers, many of whom were principals with the Duluth Garden Flower Society. A scrapbook and subsequent items from the Flower City of the North were donated among Garden Flower Society records and are included in this collection.
