The collection consists of an advertisement for the opening of the Duluth mill and an employee notice regarding spitting. The advertisement contains a demeaning depiction of an African American man's head with the tagline "There's a new coon in town and his name is Duluth Imperial."

Biographical / Historical
The Duluth Imperial Mill Company was founded in Duluth in 1889 with R.S. Munger as President. Its flour mills were located on Rice’s Point. This mill was the first flouring mill of any magnitude established in Duluth.
