Biographical / Historical
Camille Poirier came to Duluth, Minnesota in 1870 and opened a shoe store, but soon branched out to other products including tents, awnings, and pack straps. In 1882 Poirier patented his design for a canvas pack featuring shoulder straps, a buckled flap, a sternum strap, and a trumpline. Originally named the Poirier Pack, it became commonly known as the Duluth Pack.
In 1911 Poirier sold the business, including the rights to the pack, to the Alveson brothers' Duluth Tent & Awning Company. Still in operation, the business is now known as Duluth Pack.
