Biographical / Historical

Angus R. Macfarlane built the first house in the Glen Avon and Hunters Park neighborhood of Duluth, Minnesota in the early 1890s. In 1893 Macfarlane erected a small church in memory of his mother. He presented the building at Woodland Avenue and Lewis Street to the residents of the community. This church became the Glen Avon Presbyterian Church. In 1909, a new church was built across the street at 2105 Woodland Avenue after the congregation outgrew the original building. Rev. Samuel Semple was the first pastor serving from 1893–1895.
