Biographical / Historical

Captain Walter Joss Green came to Duluth, Minnesota in 1871 or 1872. He was a ship’s captain, operating a ferry between Duluth and Superior, piloting the tug Ada Barrett for the Mitchell and Mclure Lumber Company, and for the U.S. Government. He supervised the building of the Essayons, piloting it when completed. He was a member of the Masters and Pilots Association and Old Settler’s Association.
