E. J. Griese letter
Scope and Contents
Mr. E. J. (or T.) Griese was apparently a supervisor in the mining area of Hibbing, Minnesota. While nothing more is known, this letter does indicate parts of his post mining life and biography. This letter was written to Ross Campbell, the father of the donor of the letter. Mr. Campbell was an assayer in the mining field. A company for whom they were both employed is mentioned but not named. Mr. Griese mentions that he is “the only one left of the original 14 pioneers that opened up the Iron Ore Mines on the Messabe (sic) Range in 1892.” He retired in 1932 at age 70.
