Hearding family papers
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of two diaries belonging to William H., correspondence files of John H. Sr. dating from World War I and II concerning the war effort and war related experiences. The files of John H. Jr. consist of correspondence and printed material relating to the St. Louis Co. Historical Society and the Free Society Association. Also included is a small excerpt taken from John H. Sr.'s autobiography.

Biographical Information:
William H. Hearding was born in England in 1826. He immigrated to the United States in 1847. In 1851 Hearding was appointed Assistant Engineer to the U.S. Corps of Engineers in their survey of the Great Lakes, assigned to the Lake Survey Office in Detroit. He did surveying of Lake Superior in the Duluth-Superior area. Hearding died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1893.
