Scope and Contents

The collection consists of two original and one photocopied musical manuscripts. The manuscripts are for Christmas pieces composed by Hokanson. Two of the pieces appear to be arranged in two-part harmony for women’s voices. The third piece is a melody with piano accompaniment.

Biographical / Historical

American organist, pianist, arranger, conductor, professor and composer Margrethe Hokanson directed the Nordic Choral Ensemble, the Saga Singers, the Northland Singers, and the choir of the Avon Presbyterian church in Duluth, Minnesota. Hokanson was born in Duluth lived there until 1944 when she moved to Meadville, Pennsylvania to become associate professor of music at Allegheny College.
