Scope and Contents

The collection consists of three photographs and one business ledger. The photographs are a portrait of William P. Heimbach, one image of Duluth and Superior lumbermen at an outing at Namekan Lake Sept 5-7, 1919, the Virginia & Rainy Lake Co., and employees of the Endion Lumber Co, about 1920. The one volume ledger is from the Heimbach Lumber Company cover March through July, 1883.

Biographical / Historical

William Phillip Heimbach worked for the Duluth Lumber Company as a timber cruiser. He founded the Heimbach Lumber Company in 1883 in downtown Duluth on Railroad Street and the Endion Lumber Company in 1907. In 1888, he built a house at 1123 East First Street, where William Phillip Heimbach, Jr. (1888 October 30-1966 April13) was born and reared. Following his father's death William Heimbach, Jr. and his brother C.M. Heimbach continued to operate the lumber company. Heimbach Lumber and Endion Lumber consolidated in 1931 and  in 1954  the firm relocated to 1400 London Road. Hembach Lumber went out of business in 1963.
