Scope and Contents
The collection consists of 36 photographs, 28 of them in an album. Subjects of the photographs include: views of Duluth, Central High School, view of West End, Duluth Imperial Mill Co., snow scenes, logging camp and lumbering scenes, buildings, Whaleback ships, Incline Railroad at 6th Avenue West, grain elevators, Park Point bathers chute, train wreck and lake vessels. Most of these images are duplicated in the General photograph collection. Many of the photographs are stamped Eclipse View Company, Duluth. Eclipse View was Houghton's company and the photographs were most likely taken by him.

Biographical / Historical
Emery A. Houghton was a proprietor of the Eclipse View Company of Duluth, Minnesota, and a photographer. Little is known about Houghton’s life or career as a photographer. He was the son of Augustus Houghton and Etta Cole but reared by his aunt and uncle, Alice and George Cotter in St. Paul, Minnesota. He married Mae Scott and became a photographer in Duluth. Apparently his last years were spent in Ellensburg, Washington, where he was a shoe, harness and saddle maker.
