Scope and Contents

The records of the two individual companies (Little & Nolte and John A. Stephenson) and their merger have not survived. This collection consists of a fragment of items which merely name some of the principle people and changes within the Insurance Service Agency over fifty years and a chronological sketch of the company’s history. The collection includes about thirty pages of miscellaneous correspondence between the company and policy holders regarding coverage; year end statement for 1913; a few copies of policies; company letterhead and logo changes; approximately 20 photographs from 1912-1978 of staff and office interiors in various buildings; and newsclippings.

Biographical / Historical

Insurance Service Agency has its beginnings in 1886 in the Little and Nolte real estate and insurance business in Duluth. John A. Stephenson established his own real estate and insurance firm in 1892. The two companies merged in 1912, with the insurance business taking the name Insurance Service Agency.
