Iron Mining photographs
Scope and Contents
The photographs comprising this collection are in fact three discrete groups. The photographs were grouped together because of their identical mounts or by reason of their content and style which indicated they had been made originally as a set. The photographer is not known for any of the prints. It might be assumed that some of the prints were made for the Oliver Iron Mining Company.
The prints are arranged in folders in their “group” and identified by Mesabi, Vermilion, or unidentified ranges on the folder but some of the individual prints have more specific mine information on their reverse side: Adams Pit and headframe, Susquehanna mine, Hull-Rust-Mahoning mine, Cloquet mine, Auburn mine, Goodwins’ Iron Claim near Ely, Stephans mine.
Albumen and silver gelatin prints.
- Creation: circa 1880-1907
- Creation: Majority of material found in 1880s, 1890s, undated, 1903, 1906, 1907
