Scope and Contents
The collection contains 10 photographs of Jay D. Siegel, his father Julius Siegal, and their pawn shop, Keystone Loan. The photos date from about 1956, at the time the shop was located at 522 W. Superior St. in Duluth, Minnesota. The photographs show Jay and Julius Siegel standing outside of the shop, and include a couple images of the shop's interior. The collection also includes photocopies of two newspaper clippings concerning the shop and its history.

Biographical / Historical
Jay D. Siegel owned and operated the Keystone Loan Company, a pawn shop in Duluth, Minnesota. He was the third generation owner of the company, which was started by his grandfather J. D. Siegel in about 1897, and operated by his father Julius L. Siegel from the 1920s throug the late 1950s. Jay took over the business in the early to mid 1960s. The business closed in about 1978.
The Keystone Loan Company was a family owned pawn shop business in Duluth, Minnesota. The company first appears in the city directory in 1897 showing Jacob Siegel as the manager. The last entry for the business is in 1978, with Jay D. Siegel as the owner.
The first location for the shop was 16 W Superior Street. The shop relocated a number of times. Addresses include: 1910, 22 W Superior St.; 1936, 416 W Superior St.; 1943, 522 W Superior St.; 1965, 127 1/2 E 1st St.
Family members who operated the business include: Jacob D. Siegel, aka J. D. Siegel (d. 1922 June 29), Julius L. Siegel (d. 1959 July 7), Mrs. Anna Siegel (d. 1968 May 29), and Jay D. Siegel.
