Biographical / Historical

The Johns family were early settlers of Washington Harbor on Isle Royale, Michigan. Captain John F. Johns arrived from England and settled in the copper country of Houghton, Michigan and worked in the mines. Once the Johns arrived at Washington Harbor to homestead, commercial fishing was taken up.

Robert E. Johns (1916- 2002) is the son of Edgar Johns. Edgar and his brother Will operated the steamer CRESENT between Duluth, Port Arthur Canada, and Isle Royale.
