Biographical / Historical

Stanislaus Kempinski was born in Posen, Germany. He came to the United States and served in the U.S. Navy from 1897–1904, enlisting as an ordinary seaman from Duluth, Minnesota. He sailed on the Monogahela during the Spanish-American War and built a model of this ship, which he gave to the Lake Superior Marine Museum. He was also known as Stanley Kempin.
