Scope and Contents
The collection contains correspondence between Sinclair Lewis and his sales agent Kenneth S. Cant concerning Lewis’s rental and purchase of the Webber home at 2601 East 2nd Street, Duluth; six letters written by Sinclair Lewis in Europe, New York City and Washington D.C. to Claude (Washburn), concerning personal and literary matters; and nine letters from Lewis to Marjorie Wilkins dated February to August, 1948.

Biographical / Historical
Writer Sinclair Lewis was born in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. He wrote novels, plays, short stories, and screenplays. His work is noted for its commentary on American society and values. Lewis declined the Pulitizer Prize for his 1926 novel Arrowsmith. In 1930 he became the first U.S. recipient of the Nobel Prize for literature. He lived in New York City for many years and returned to Minnesota in 1945 when he moved to Duluth. He planed to live here permanently, but only stayed one year.
