Biographical / Historical

Minnesota Steel Company was formed as a subsidiary organization of U.S. Steel in 1907 to oversee land acquisition, construction, and eventual operation of its manufacturing operations in Duluth (Morgan Park). George L. Reis served as Minnesota Steel's first vice president and general manager. The plan for the steel plant was filed with the city building inspector in May 1910. The plant produced its first steel on December 11, 1915.
