Saime Monson oral history interview
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of one cassette tape of an interview of Saime Monson by Professor Richard H. Hudelson, Ph.D., UMD professor of philosopy. It is a 100 minute tape and is in good condition. The interview is about famiy history and the 1909 Swedish Community in Duluth, Minnesota. Also present at the interview is Mary Edson, Gus Nordin's widow. Gus Nordin (1911-1988), Duluth newspaper editor, was Saime Monson's younger brother. It has not been transcribed.

Biographical / Historical
Saime Elivira Monson was born in Sweden and brought to Duluth, Minnesota as an infant by her parents Alex and Maria Sigred Nordin. Saime's brother was Gustav Adolf Nordin, or Gus Nordin Duluth newspaper editor of Duluth Herald and Duluth News Tribune.
The family lived at various locations in Duluth including 18th Avenue West when Alex worked for the Scott-Graff Lumber Company. Her parents had borders, mostly lumber jacks, and Maria's excellent cooking assured them of lodgers.
Saime married Bennie Aaron Monson (6 December 1900-20February 1977). Saime died in Duluth 10 June 1996.
