The Observation Community Club records are those that were kept by James B. Casey. Casey was the acting secretary at the Jan. 29 1921 organizing meeting and remained secretary until December 1931.

The collection consists of minutes, script and typed copy, from July 26, 1909–December 24, 1931; a brief history of the Observation Community Club; its constitution and bylaws; the constitution and bylaws of other community clubs in the city; and a list of names and officers of various community clubs in the city that were used as “contacts”.

Biographical / Historical

The Observation Community Club, originally the Fifth Ward Hillside Improvement Club was founded informally in 1906 to assure installation of a water main in their community. The club met informally from 1906 to 1909. They formally organized in 1909. Their purpose was to secure improvements for their community. In 1920 the constitution and bylaws ere changed to include social and athletic activities in order to attract younger people. At this time the name was changed to the Observation Community Club. James B. Casey was the acting secretary at the January 29, 1921 organizing meeting and remained secretary until December 1931.
