“Remembering the Past, Looking to the Future” is a Minnesota Public Radio broadcast that is COPYRIGHT restricted. The program was produced and written by Ms. Stephanie Hemphill and Mr. Chris Julin of Duluth’s MPR affiliate station. It was aired June 7, 2001 as part of a week of events in Duluth, Minnesota planned by the MEMORIAL COMMITTEE. The Committee sought to commemorate the deaths of three African-American circus workers in Duluth on June 15, 1920. The victims, lynched by a mob, were Elias Clayton, Elmer Jackson and Isaac McGhie. The Committee seeks to place a visible memorial downtown at the site of the lynching. The week’s events had national media coverage.

With its three services — News & Information Service, Classical Music Service and The Current — operating a 40-station regional radio network and serving a regional population of 5 million people, MPR has 103,575 members and more than 900,000 listeners each week, the largest audience of any regional public radio network.

Since its origins as a single classical music station in 1967 at KSJR in Collegeville, Minnesota Public Radio has earned nearly 1,000 broadcasting and journalism awards, including seven George Foster Peabody Awards (dubbed the "Oscar of broadcasting"), six Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards, a prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Gold Baton Award and a GRAMMY Award.

Minnesota Public Radio broadcasts on 40 stations that serve Minnesota and its neighboring communities and 40 translators providing additional local coverage.

Most areas are served by both a classical music station and a news and information station. One location is covered by a single station that combines both services. Two locations are served by a classical music station, a news and information station, and The Current. The public inspection files of all Minnesota Public Radio stations are available on the Web. Duluth, MN/Superior, WI station is WSCN at 100.5 FM and WSCD at 92.9 FM
