Scope and Contents

Linda A. Paulsen bought the Queen Anne style Alfred and Jane McCordic house at 2104 East Superior Street and converted it into a bed and breakfast enterprise called The Immigrant House. The papers relate solely to the house and its restoration. It is a local landmark and on preservation tours. The collection consists of copies and original documents about the building, owners, Duluth bed and breakfast ordinances, a few vintage exterior photographs taken by earlier owners, and copies of plat and fire insurance maps that place the building in the neighborhood.

Biographical / Historical

Linda A. Paulsen bought the Queen Anne style Alfred and Jane McCordic house at 2104 East Superior Street and converted it into a bed and breakfast enterprise called The Immigrant House. The house was built by Coffin & Company for lawyer McCordic in 1890. It was completed in 1891. It was extensively remodeled in 1909, in the less elaborate Neocolonial style by architects Bray and Nystrom . Except for the stucco added in the 1920s, the house today is identical to the house of 1909 although it suffered from neglect by prior owners.
