Scope and Contents

The collection consists of the transcript of a slide lecture, which described the history of the Duluth Missabe & Iron Range Railroad and the predominant role it played in the development of the Vermilion and Mesabi Ranges; the eventual decline of red ores; and the growth of the taconite pellet industry in Minnesota.

The lecture was presented as a case study on railroads and productivity during the Institute on Railroads and Railroading; presented by the Department of History/Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin - Superior, June 4-8, 1979
