Halvor Reiten oral history interview
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of an audio recording and a transcript of an interview with Halvor Reiten. The interview was conducted by Geoffrey Pope and Bob Bruce and took place in 1976. The recording has been digitized.
In the interview Halvor Reiten, a commercial fisherman on Lake Superior, described the sinking of his tug on January 4, 1924, off Port Wing, Wisconsin, and his own fight for life as he rowed across the lake to safety at Two Harbors, Minnesota. He also discussed the aftermath of this incident, including paying his creditors for the sunken boat.
