Biographical / Historical
Thomas J. Shefchik Sr. (6/11/1890 - 4/20/1963) and his son Thomas J. Shefchik, Jr. (10/30/1920 - 7/5/2002) were both architects who lived and worked in Duluth and northern Wisconsin. Thomas Shefchik Sr. began his career as an apprentice draftsman with the firm of Kelly & Lignell. Following his graduation from the University of Pennsylvania, he entered into partnership in 1917 in Duluth with Clyde W. Kelly under the firm name of Kelly & Shefchik. He practiced alone from 1922. He was awarded first place in the open competition of 1926 to design and build the Duluth city hall.
