Scope and Contents
The collection consists of Aad Temple Shrine Circus programs from the years 1949, 1951-1964, 1966-1967. The programs themselves contain notes from the Aad Temple officers, history of the Shriners, promotional material regarding vacation areas in northern Minnesota, and a large amount of advertising from local businesses.

Biographical / Historical
The Shrine is a fraternal and philanthropic organization formed in New York City in 1871 out of the Knights Templar and 32nd degree Scottish Rite Masons and named Ancient Arabic Order, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. The Duluth chapter of Shriners is the Aad Temple.
The Shrine Circus was founded in the United States in 1906 and travels throughout the United States and Canada. As noted in the 1949 Aad Temple Shrine Circus program "While the circus is sponsored by and under the direction of Aad Temple, it has come to be looked upon as a civic event." During the years represented by the programs in this collection the circus was held at the Duluth Curling Club.
