Biographical / Historical

The Shrine is a fraternal and philanthropic organization formed in New York City in 1871 out of the Knights Templar and 32nd degree Scottish Rite Masons and named Ancient Arabic Order, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. The Duluth chapter of Shriners is the Aad Temple.

The Shrine Circus was founded in the United States in 1906 and travels throughout the United States and Canada. As noted in the 1949 Aad Temple Shrine Circus program "While the circus is sponsored by and under the direction of Aad Temple, it has come to be looked upon as a civic event."
