St. Louis County Court House Commission records
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of a record book with the general laws of Minnesota which provided for the creation of this commission, its minutes and resolutions, and some loose resolutions, bills and business letters. NOTE: The volume was examined to determine content about architect Daniel H. Burnham and any related correspondence or mention of the Burnham Plan. Nothing of substance was found except miscellaneous discussion in March of 1910 of elevator installation with the Burnham Company. There are no architectural drawings in the volume.
Page 209: "Two months later which would be August 1907, D. H. Burnham & Co of Chicago, Illinois were engaged as architects with J. J. Wangenstein of Duluth as local architect. In the fall and winter of this year, the plan of grouping the public buildings of the city around a central plaza or square was conceived by Mr. Burnham and earnestly advocated by him. He had many sketches and preliminary drawings made showing how such a plan could be developed and public sentiment rapidly agreed with his plan as the one that should be followed if possible."
