Biographical / Historical

The Spirit Mountain Recreation Area Authority was created by Chapter 327, Minnesota Laws, 1973; and by resolution of the Duluth, Minnesota City Council, July 2, 1973; amended by 10-0237R, May, 10, 2010 for the purpose of providing year-round recreation. It has more than a $37 million annual economic impact on the Duluth area.

A long-term Master Plan was begun in October 2007 and a document outline distributed for public input in 2008. Since 2004, Spirit Mountain has invested $6 million for improvement and infrastructure enhancements including the Timber Twister Alpine Coaster in 2010 and a Zip Line, Mini Golf Course, and Tubing Park in 2011. The northern Minnesota ski and recreation area began major expansion for completion by the 2013 season.
