Scope and Contents

The collection contains files from Sweeney-Lamonts tenure as an administrative assistant for the Minnesota House of Representatives. Materials include correspondence, research papers, materials collected relative to proposed legislation, press releases, memos, campaign materials, and information on governmental processes.

The collection is divided into three series:

Commerce and Economic Development Committee Files, Box 1-3

Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee Files, Box 4

Governmental Process Files, Box 5-6

The Commerce and Economic Development Committee files contain information which was gathered to assist the committee in its deliberations on issues such as drug pricing, consumer credit, bingo, economic development, home warranties, automobile related problems, tourism, housing loans, and tax laws.

The Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee files contain information which was gathered to assist the committee in its deliberations on issues such as: consumer credit, consumer finance, Duluth-Superior economic base, taxes, retail credit, bogus investment firsm, and no fault automobile insurance and usury.

The Governmental Process files contain information on computerized bill drafting, political campaigns, and recount procedures.

Biographical / Historical

Barbra Sweeney-Lamont was born in Hollywood, Calilfornia in 1948. She later attended the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Sweeney-Lamont served for two years, 1973-1974, as the first administrative assistant for two committees of the Minnesota House of Representatives: Commerce and Economic Development, chaired by Jim Adams; and Financial Institutions and Insurance, chaired by Bernie Brinkman. Following that she was employed as an assistant administrator at the University of Minnesota, Duluth.
