Biographical / Historical

The Sugarloaf Interpretive Center Association is a grassroots environmental organization established in 1992 to protect Sugarloaf Point and Cove in Cook County Minnesota. The state of Minnesota proposed developing the cove into a marina and safe harbor. SICA formed to preserve the site's unique geological and floristic features in coordination with it having already been a state designated Scientific and Natural Area (SNA). Geologist Dr. John C. Green, author of the SNA nomination, former Minnesota Governor Elmer L. Andersen, and UMD geology Professor and Chancellor Dr. Robert L. Heller were founding directors. A complete list of directors follows in an organizational Timeline. http://www.sugarloafnorthshore.org/index.html The name was changed to Sugarloaf: Northshore Stewardship Association.
