Biographical / Historical
Peter O. Tilderquist was born in Sweden in 1833. He later immigrated to the United States and married another Swedish immigrant, Gustava Nilson or Nelson. Peter Tilderquist and his wife moved to Vasa, Minnesota, in Goodhue County, where they acquired a farm. From 1862 until the death of Gustava (circa 1885), at least 10 children were born to them: Alice Minnie, Anna Lavinia, Eva, William, David, Huldah, Lawrence, Siegfred, Hannah Elizabeth, and Ida.
The family was very active in local Swedish religious activities and community affairs. Peter Tilderquist became both a prominent leader of the Swedish Evangelical Luther Church and clerk of the Vasa public school. The children were education in public schools and church communicant classes. May of Peter Tilderquist's children studied at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota.
On October 4, 1901, Peter O. Tilderquist died and Lawrence Tilderquist took over the farm. David Tilderquist moved to Duluth, Minnesota in 1904. Eventually, four of Peter Tilderquist's daughters also settled in Duluth: Eva, Huldah, Ida, and Hannah Elizabeth.
