Scope and Contents
The collection contains A Study of the Feasibility of Establishing a Self Dependent Living Skills Program, prepared for Woodland Hills Home by Burt Galaway, and related documents including correspondence and subsequent reports on establishing a self-dependent living skills program. The idea of the program was to aid older youth and young adults to develop skills needed for self-dependent living.

Biographical / Historical
The St. James Orphanage was opened by the Duluth, Minnesota, Catholic Diocese in 1909. In 1971 the program began operating as a residential treatment program and changed its name to Woodland Hills. It currently provides mental health and correctional services for adolescents to promote behavioral, mental and chemical health as well as physical well-being.
