Baldwin Flats photographs

The Baldwin Flats are located at 711 – 715 West Second Street, Duluth, Minnesota, built in 1891 – 92. The thirteen prints comprising this collection were copied from a photograph album loaned to the St. Louis County Historical Society, the copy prints and negatives were then transferred to the NEMHC. The prints show the exterior and interior of the building. The apartments shown are of Mr. and Mrs. John Abbott and Mr. And Mrs. Albert E. Botsford. The prints were not dated but R.L. Polk Duluth City Directories indicate these people resided at the Baldwin Flats between the years 1896 – 1906. Both men were employed by the Pioneer Fuel Company, changing residences often but in the area. The name Baldwin was retained until 1957 though the numbers altered from 718 to 715 – 719. The names thereafter changed: 1958 – 1962 Hillside Apartments, 718 – 720 West 5th; 1963 – 1968 Harbor View Apartments, 719 or 715 West 5th; vacant; 1970 up to the present, Townview Apartments, 715 West 5th Street.
