Scope and Contents
Contains photographs taken by Helge A. Gustafson of various construction and demolition projects in Duluth, Minnesota throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Topics include: I-35 extension through downtown Duluth, Superior Street bricking project; Lyric Block demolition; New Normandy Mall construction; Glass Block demolition; First Bank Place construction; Bradley Building demolition; Lake Avenue bridge construction; and Lake Superior Paper Mill construction. The collection also includes older photographs and clippings of Interlake Iron Corps. Zenith Furnace Company of West Duluth.

Biographical / Historical
Helge Alfons Gustafson was born on October 14, 1917. A lifelong Duluthian, he graduated from Denfeld High School in 1937, and went on to work in various jobs, including for the Grand Bakery, Miller's Cafeteria, the Northern Pacific Railroad, and Diamond Tool. He worked for the Duluth School District at Denfeld High School for 19 years, retiring from there in 1980. He was an accomplished amatuer photographer. Gustafson passed away in 2002 at the age of 84.
