Biographical / Historical
The Minnesota Finnish-American Historical Society was organized in 1942. Its purpose is to record and preserve Finnish heritage and promote Finnish tradition and customs. At the time covered by the bulk of the materials in this collection, there were eight active local chapters: Brainard, Duluth, Fergus Falls, Hibbing, Nashwauk, New York Mills, Sebeka, and the Twin Cities. The Society and its local chapters hold meetings, festivals, picnics, and other events, as well as participating in parades, folk festivals, and other events in their larger communities. The Society also sponsors projects that preserve Finiish history and heritage, such as language camps and publications.
