Historical Note
Gartner Group, founded in 1979 by Gideon Gartner, is an information technology research and advisory company that provides computer industry intelligence and forecasting. Research provided by Gartner Group is created for a high level audience of chief information officers and senior IT leaders in government agencies, high-tech and telecom enterprises, professional services firms, and technology investors. Originally a private company, the Gartner Group was acquired by Saatchi & Saatchi, a London-based advertising agency, and then re-acquired in 1990 by some of its former executives. The firm’s name was shortened to Gartner in 2001.
