Scope and Contents

The collection contains production material for over sixty children's and young adult books written by Judy Delton. Materials include manuscripts, typescripts, proofs, notes, reviews, clippings, and related material. There is also a substantial amount of correspondence to and from Judy Delton and various publishers as well as with children. Miscellaneous royalty statements, newspaper clippings, and information regarding a lawsuit filed by the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America vs. Dell Publishing and Judy Delton are also contained in the collection, regarding the Pee Wee Scouts book series.

Biographical / Historical

Judy Delton was born May 6, 1931 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She attended the College of St. Catherine, and later taught elementary school in the St. Paul parochial schools. Judy Delton published her first book, Two Good Friends in 1974. Throughout her career she has primarily written for children and young adults, as well as one writing book for adults.

Many of Delton's books for children and young adults draw on her own upbringing in St. Paul and her many years attending parochial schools. Many of her books deal with realistic and difficult topics, including growing up, religion, single parenting, and children's emotional concerns. Other series include the Pee Wee Scounts, and Condo Kids, as well as books for younger readers, such as the Brimhall series. Delton died December 31,2001.
