Biographical Sketch

Mary McCaffrey (pseudonym for Agnes S(usan) P(hilomena) Szudek (pronounced shoe-deck) was born in Scotland. Mary McCaffrey was her mother's maiden name. McCaffrey's childhood was spent happily in the English midlands. Her family was literary minded, and the parents encouraged creativity in their children. In 1962 she married a Polish military writer and with him traveled through Europe and the Middle East. Of her various writings for children, her own favorites are the Victoria Plumb stories. both of which were selected as a Children's Book of the Year by the National Book League.
