The collection contains both written and illustrative materials. Written materials include corrected typescripts, some photocopied or carbon, dummies, notes, page proofs, galley proofs, some corrected, layout notes, reviews, correspondence, outlines, illustration lists, a appendices, holographs, book jackets, receipts, a pamphlet, front matter, research material, and clippings. Illustrative materials include sketches on tissue paper, some photocopied, sketches on board with tissue overlay, watercolor and pencil illustrations on board, some with separations, dummies, mixed media sketches, pasteups, pencil and ink illustrations, some with separations, original black and white drawings, watercolor illustrations, pencil and felt tip pen sketches on tissue and on lined paper, ink illustrations, some with separations, halftone prints, maps, watercolor, tempera and ink illustrations, blueprints of original art, ink and watercolor illustrations, pencil and thumbnail studies, and pencil and watercolor illustrations.

Biographical Sketch

Robert McClung was born September 10, 1916 in Butler, Penn. He became an editor and free-lance writer. His works, many self-illustrated, present the world of natural history to young people through fact-based fiction. Many of his books deal with animals and their life cycles. He is also concerned about conservation and the environment. He has received numerous honors and awards for his work.
