Biographical / Historical
Rhoda Blumberg was born in 1917 in New York, New York. She received her BA from Adelphi College in 1938 and also did graduate work at Columbia University. She was a freelance writer for CBS radio and a talent scout for NBC radio in the 1940s, as well as a magazine writer. She is best known for her children's books of historical nonfiction. Her book Commodore Perry in the Land of the Shogun received a Newbery Honor in 1986. She died in 2016.
