Born Virginia Carli Laughlin, 1907, in Paoli, OK., daughter of John Clarke and Elizabeth (Crawford) Laughlin; divorced; married James Aiello, September 12, 1964.,

Education: Attended Stanford University; University of Washington, Seattle, M.A. 1936; postgraduate courses at Columbia University, New York University.

Awards, honors: Child Study Association Children's Book Committee Award, 1972 for Migrant Girl.

Also wrote under the pseudonym John Clarke.

Died 1988
