Biographical / Historical

Claudia Mills was born August 21, 1954, in New York, New York. After earning a B.A. at Wellesley College, she received an MA in Philosophy from Princeton, before leaving to work as an editorial assistant at Four Winds Press. Her first book, At the Back of the Woods was published there in 1982. Most of her children's books are chapter books aimed at early or middle grade readers. In addition to her writing career, she earned her Ph.D. in Philosophy from Princeton in 1991, and is an Associate Professor Emerita at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she taught from 1991 until 2014. She lives in Colorado.
