Jim Aylesworth Papers
Scope and Contents
The papers contain written production material for children's books published by Jim Aylesworth. The collection includes manuscripts, typescripts, dummies, reviews, proofs, correspondence, and related items. The collection also holds children's fan correspondence and photographs related to class visits, several folders of rejection letters from publishers, as well as a small amount of handmade realia related to a few of his children's books.

Biographical / Historical
Jim Aylesworth was born on February 21, 1943 in Jacksonville, Florida. He earned his B.A. from Miami University (Ohio) in 1965, and after working as a stockbroker, Aylesworth began teaching primary education in 1971 and earned his Masters Degree from Concordia College (River Forest, Illinois) in 1978.
Aylesworth's first picture book for children Hush Up! was published in 1980. In 1996, Aylesworth retired from teaching to write full time. He has authored nearly forty books for children. Aylesworth lives in Chicago, IL.
