Biographical / Historical
Kathleen Karr was born April 21, 1946 in Allentown, PA. She received her BA from the Catholic University of America in 1968 and her MA from Providence College in 1971. She began her career as a high school English and speech teacher in Barrington, Rhode Island in 1968 before working for working for theaters and lecturing on film and communication.
Karr began writing seriously on a dare from her husband Lawrence Karr. After a brief period writing romance novels, Karr switched to children's literature under the influence of her two children. Most of her works were historical fiction, with titles including The Great Turkey Walk, The Boxer, and Exiled: Memoirs of a Camel. She died in 2017.
