Biographical / Historical

William Sharp was born Leon Schleifer in Austria in 1900. After serving in World War I he worked as a newspaper artist, etcher, and political cartoonist in Berlin before moving to the United States in 1934 after the Nazis took power in Germany. He worked for Esquire, and contributed illustrations for many other periodicals and books. He died in 1961.
