Biographical Sketch
Hadley Irwin is the joint pseudonym for Lee Hadley and Ann Irwin, who collaborated to write young adult fiction dealing with social issues including inter-racial prejudice and injustice, divorce, the segregation of the elderly, and incest. The authors were born in Iowa and met while teaching in the English Department at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Their collaboration presents adolescents who must deal with serious issues and who find inner strength to face the challenge. The authors claim their characterizations and stories draw on years of teaching and observing adolescents in the classroom and elsewhere, and that "the concerns, problems, and emotions of the young are basically the same as those of the adult. We try to write with honesty, humor, and understanding." Lee Hadley died in 1995.
