Biographical Sketch

Barbara Brooks Wallace was born in Soochow, China. She spent her childhood in China and the Phillipines. In 1945, she earned her B.A.degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. Her first book, Claudiawas published in 1969. She won the William Allen White Children's Book Award in 1983 for Peppermints in the Parlorand the Edgar All Poe Award for best juvenile mystery for The Twin in the Tavernin 1994.
