Scope and Contents

This collection consists of manuscript materials related to two children's books by Norma Sommerdorf, and includes correspondence, corrected typescript, dummies, page proofs, clippings, ephemera, typescript and research. Some of the research clippings date back to 1853, and are photocopies of original newspapers.

Biographical / Historical

Norma Jean Sommerdorf was born Juny 17, 1926, in Britt, Iowa. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1947 with a B.S. in Eductaion. In 1946 she married Vernon Sommerdorf, living in St. Paul, Minnesota. Sommerdorf's career included work for the St. Paul Public Library, servicing on political campaigns and eventually serving as the manager of the Governor's Residence for Wendell Andersen. She wrote two children's books, An Elm Tree and Three Sistersin 2001, and Red River Girlin 2006. Sommerdorf passed away on September 28, 2011.
