Biographical / Historical

Mary Q. Steele was born May 8, 1922, in Chattanooga, Tenn. She married the author William O. Steele, and published her fist book under the pseudonym Wilson Gage in 1958. Throughout her long and prolific career, she wrote both picture books for young children and more complex stories for older readers. In 1970, she received a Newbery citation for Journey Outside. Mary Q. Steele died June 30, 1992.
